I have planned real weddings at these resorts. I know the teams, the venues, and what nobody tells you until it's too late. Here's the honest version.
Why this Matters
Most travel agents will pull up a resort's website, show you some photos, and tell you it's beautiful. And it probably is. But beautiful and great for your wedding are not the same thing.
I have planned actual weddings at the resorts on this page. I know which venues photograph best at what time of day. I know which wedding teams are genuinely excellent and which ones are still building their track record. I know what the fine print in those contracts actually means for your day.
That's not something you can get from a booking website. It comes from 15 years of site inspections, FAM trips, and being on the ground when couples say "I do."

More Jungle, More Character, fewer look alike resorts
Riviera Maya runs through the same Cancun International Airport as the resorts to the north, one of the most connected airports in the Americas. Direct flights from virtually every major US city, multiple departures daily, most guests are looking at under four hours in the air, then a scenic drive of 45 minutes to an hour and a half down the coast. When you're asking 50 people to travel for your wedding, that matters more than almost anything else.
The airport situation is genuinely unbeatable
Riviera Maya runs south from Cancun through Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras, and the resorts here lean into what makes the region different: cenotes, Mayan jungle, architecture that doesn't look like every other beachfront property in Mexico. If your couple wants their photos to look distinct from the standard Cancun hotel zone shot, this stretch of coast delivers it.
The most distinctive resort landscape in Mexico
When your guests book their room, they know exactly what they're spending. No surprise bar tabs, no restaurant bills at checkout, no financial anxiety hanging over the week. That predictability translates directly into higher RSVPs - people say yes when they understand exactly what they're committing to.
A wider range, from big-name luxury to boutique and art-forward
Riviera Maya has some of the biggest names in Mexican luxury hospitality and some of the most distinct boutique, art-forward properties in the country, sitting a few miles apart from each other. Playa del Carmen is the walkable, developed hub, south of it the feel gets quieter and more spread out. That range means a family spanning three generations and a couple who want an adults-only, design-forward week can both find their fit here without you sending them to two different regions
Every resort on this page is one I'd put my name behind. But they are not interchangeable, and the right one for your wedding depends on things that don't show up in an Instagram add or a TripAdvisor review.
A beautiful resort does not automatically have a great wedding team. I have been in the planning meetings. I have been on property during actual weddings. I know which coordinators are genuinely excellent, which ones are responsive under pressure, and which properties are still working out the kinks in their wedding operations.
I have no financial reason to send you to any particular resort over another. No property pays me more than the next. My only interest is your wedding going exactly right, which means you get an honest recommendation.
That's what 15 years and zero allegiances actually looks like in practice.

-The resort breakdown-
Every assessment below comes from planning actual weddings at these properties, not resort websites or press kits. I maintain ongoing relationships with each wedding team and update our knowledge through regular site visits.
Secrets Moxché has the best private venue I've found in all of this region, an indoor-outdoor space that gives you flexibility almost nothing else nearby can match. It's one of the properties I recommend most often in this region, and not by accident.
south of Cancun • 45 minutes from CUN Airport
Grand Velas is where I send couples who want a five-star week and a guest list that spans three generations, without either one being a compromise. The onsite planning team is some of the most responsive and creative I work with anywhere in Mexico.
South of Cancun • 45 minutes from the airport
Park Acess included • 50 Minutes from Cancun airport
Family friendly • Riviera Maya
Xcaret México is the most unique property on this page, nothing about it looks or feels like a standard resort. Food and drinks are excellent, and the included excursions turn your wedding week into an amazing trip for your guests.
Xcaret Arte is Xcaret México's adults-only sibling next door, same jaw-dropping aesthetic and the same parks access, built around an art-and-wellness identity that is adult-only for a more romantic vibe.

A property can be stunning on Instagram and still have an onsite wedding coordinator who misses emails and overpromises on the day. I've been in those planning meetings. Every resort I recommend has a team we've worked with and trust -- and I stay actively involved throughout your planning to make sure nothing falls through the cracks regardless of which property you choose.
Room blocks need more lead time than most couples expect
Setting up a room block for your guests isn't a last-minute task -- especially for peak 2027 dates. Top properties in the Cancun corridor are already booking out. The earlier your guests can secure their rooms, the better the rates and the more options they have. We set up and manage your room block so you're not trying to coordinate guest accommodations while also planning a wedding.

Resort wedding package add-ons add up faster than you think
All-inclusive wedding packages are often priced attractively. The upgraded florals, extended reception hours, additional guest fees, and premium bar upgrades can significantly change the final number. We review every contract before you sign and make sure you understand exactly what's included, what costs extra, and where there's room to negotiate on your behalf.
How it Works
From First Question to
wedding day
We get into your vision, your guest count, your priorities, and the destinations you're considering. A real conversation with someone who has planned weddings at these properties, not a sales call.
Book your 45 minute consultation
Based on your priorities we present a clear recommendation with honest context, including what we know from actual weddings at each property. Not a list of options. An actual recommendation you can make a decision from.
Room blocks, flight coordination, arrival logistics, we handle all of it for your guest list so you're not fielding 40 questions about which flight to book while also planning a wedding.
Available from first booking through your return flight home. If something comes up you call us -- not a resort hold queue. That's the difference between working with a specialist and using a booking website.

let's start planning
Yes. Mexico recognizes civil ceremonies performed at licensed resort properties. Most top all-inclusive resorts work directly with local civil registry officials and have a clear process for the required documentation- passports, birth certificates, and blood tests completed within Mexico. We walk you through exactly what's needed and connect you with the right contacts at the resort to handle the legal requirements.
Now is the right time. Peak Saturday dates at top Cancun area properties are already filling, and room blocks for larger guest lists take time to negotiate properly. 12-18 months out gives you the best venue availability, the most negotiating leverage on your wedding package, and the best room pricing for your guests. If 2027 is your target, the window to start is today.
Playa del Carmen is the main town and the most developed stretch, walkable, close to the ferry to Cozumel, and home to a lot of the newer resort openings including Secrets Moxché. South of town toward Puerto Aventuras and beyond, the feel gets quieter and more spread out, more jungle, fewer crowds. Both are within about an hour of Cancun International. Which fits your wedding depends on whether your guests want a walkable town nearby or a more secluded resort week.
The onsite wedding coordinator handles your ceremony and reception logistics, the day-of details. That's their role. Our role is everything around it: your guest travel, room blocks, contract review, and staying closely involved to make sure nothing gets lost. The two work in parallel, and having me in the mix means you have an advocate who knows what to ask for and how to push back when needed.
Couples are welcome to bring an outside wedding planner, though the onsite coordinators at the resorts I recommend are genuinely excellent, an outside planner is rarely necessary. I also offer on-site travel coordination, meaning I can travel with your group to ensure a seamless arrival experience and that every detail is executed exactly as planned
Guests pay a nightly room rate that covers all meals at multiple restaurants, unlimited premium beverages, non-motorized water sports, entertainment, and most resort amenities. No surprise charges at checkout. That predictability is one of the biggest reasons all-inclusive destination weddings consistently see higher guest attendance than non-all-inclusive alternatives -- people say yes when they know what they're committing to financially.
When you book direct or through a large booking site, you get a transaction. When you work with us, you get someone who has planned actual weddings at these properties, has no financial incentive to favor any resort over another, and manages the entire guest travel experience alongside your wedding planning. We've reviewed the contracts, we know the teams, and we've been in the room when things go sideways -- which means we know how to prevent it.
A: It means exactly that, guests need to be 18 or older to stay on property, no exceptions. Properties like Secrets Moxché and Hotel Xcaret Arte are built around that adults-only environment on purpose, quieter, more romantic, no kids' pool noise competing with your wedding week. If your guest list is a genuine mix of ages, Grand Velas and Hotel Xcaret México are the family-friendly options in this same region.
A: No, and this is the question I get asked most. Adults-only means adults-only, full stop, there's no exception for one ring bearer or one niece who'll only be there a few hours. Even if a child isn't staying overnight on property, they can't attend your wedding or be on the grounds at all if you've booked an adults-only resort. If there's even one child you want present, you're choosing a family-friendly property instead, that's a decision worth making early since it determines which resorts are even on the table.
